From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new, sexy standalone novel.
It seemed like a good idea at the time. Look up Landon Roderick, that boy from childhood whom I’d never been able to forget—even though he so easily forgot about me—and call him.
Then again, anything sounds like a good idea when you’ve had a little too much wine before bed, right? It was supposed to be just a quick, meaningless, prank call. Instead, I went off on him—unloading thirteen years of pent-up emotions.
I didn’t think he’d call me back.
I certainly could never have anticipated the weeks of sexually tense phone conversations that followed as I got to know the man he’d become.
Turned out, Landon had never really forgotten me, either. That special connection we had was still there. I opened up to him, but there were also things about me he didn’t know. And he had his own secrets.
Over the countless hours we talked on the phone, I wondered what would happen if we actually saw each other. One night, I did something impulsive again. Only this time, I went to the airport and booked a ticket to California. We were about to find out if one phone call could bring two lost souls together or if my drunk dial really was all just a big mistake.
A complete STANDALONE.
Rating: 4.5 Groupie Stars
This book had my intrigued from the first moment I read the synopsis. I loved how unique it sounded and it being a Penelope Ward story I knew it was going to be a brilliant, well thought out story.
The book was romantic and heart felt with highs and lows from both characters, Landon and Rana. It was kind of a second chance romance but not in the traditional sense and like how we’re used to reading about them.
Rana used to live with her family in Landons parents converted garage until they suddenly don’t anymore. Her and Landon used to be the best of friends and joined at the hip until suddenly they were torn apart. Stories were told to each of them about why they no longer lived there anymore. Because of these lies and stories Rana has harboured years of anger towards Landon and his family. It’s only after she got so drunk through that she decided to pick up the phone and lay into Landon only to find out that there’s been years of lies told.
I loved the phone calls between them both. Every word they said to each other felt so real. Watching them reconnect after all this, time and get to no each other as adults was heart warming. They shared a strong connection but the question is would they risk that connection over the phone to meet in real life?
Landon and Rana both have demons and are lonely broken people. Each conversation they had was them healing each other one page at a time.
Landon was the perfect man for Rana. He was so sweet and understanding but he also really loveable.
Rana was really funny but quite insecure. I loved how she trusted Landon and put all her faith in him.
This book was all about a connection and second chances.
A good read
