Good morning my dear, naive friend,
I hope you’re enjoying a breakfast of regret and sorrow.
Because you sent me to work for Dean Harper, aka a control freak in a tailor-made suit. Sure he owns the trendiest restaurants in NYC, but c’mon Jo, his ego makes Kanye West look like the Dalai Lama.
He’s the type of guy that only hears the word “no” when it’s followed by “don’t stop.”
Working for Dean Harper would be like selling my soul to the devil…and before you say anything, I don’t care if the devil has punch-you-in-the-gut brown eyes and an ass to match. My soul isn’t for sale.
The Allure of Dean Harper is a full-length standalone romance with overlapping characters from The Allure of Julian Lefray. Both books can be read separately. Chronologically, The Allure of Julian Lefray happens first.
The story had a perfect mix of sweet, sexy, fun and funny in it. The banter between the couple was just brilliant. The back and forth between them made me laugh out loud so many time.
Dean is just perfect. He is a complete workaholic who is used to getting his own way and controlling everything around him. I loved these qualities in him and that he always wanted the best in his career and to always be in top with his buisness. He was out spoken, rude and stubborn to but in his line of work I think he had to be that way so I saw nothing wrong with Dean, I found all these things about him made him pretty perfect.
Lily is slightly like Dean in that she is stubborn, works in the same industry, works extremely hard and is focussed.
Lily moved to New York to be with her best friend and to get a dream job as a food critic in the best place in the world.
After a lot of back and forth Dean and Lily are forced together and then Sparks start flying as neither of them like the other very much.
The chemistry between the couple is strong right from the start and their is a build up of tension as the pair do nothing but fight each other at every turn. The fighting I found so funny. I liked the wit and seeing them fighting their attraction throughout the book.
This book was defintly a love/hate story and I loved how the author write it that way but she managed to input humour throughout so that as a reader we never ended up hating one if the characters when they was fighting so much. They both gave as good as they got.
I enjoyed that the book was told from both Dean and Liky’s POV as I always feel it lets the reader really get inside a characters head more.
The pace of the book was just right and the author did another great job at writing a fun, light hearted romantic comedy that everyone will enjoy.
Another great book by RS Grey that I’d recommend.
I live in Texas where I spend my free time writing and reading. My favorite authors are Mindy Kaling & Jonathan Safran Foer. I’m a comedy geek and love all things funny. Women like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Mindy Kaling are definitely the biggest inspirations for my writing, though I think my work tends to skew a bit smuttier than theirs.
