Wildcard is a short story about Ryder Stevens. Ryder is a British tennis player and has a bit of a reputation for being a wild, partying bad boy. He loves to party and frequently hooks up with different women for one-night stands. He is getting bored with tennis I feel like that is why he is such a partying bad boy; but things change for him when an injury takes him out of the game. His friend suggests that he go through some fan mail to keep him busy while he heals. He stumbles across a letter from Jake, a seven year old from Chicago. Jake’s letter calls him out on his bad public image. Ryder decides to call the boy but he gets his mother, Scarlett instead. Ryder and Scarlett become friends and speak often. She encourages Ryder to change his ways and prove his tabloid image wrong by doing selfless arcs for others. Can a wildcard like Ryder change his partying ways?
Ryder finds out that Jake is sick and there is a doctor doing a trial therapy in London. So Ryder takes Jake and Scarlett to London to see the doctor. As soon as they meet there is an undeniable attraction. Ryder has never been drawn to a woman like he is to Scarlett. Can she tame his wild side?
This was a great quick read. It’s full of emotion and has some sexy scenes as well. I loved the characters. Both Jake and Scarlett shared the same spunky attitude. Ryder is a wealthy, sexy, cocky, British tennis star; exactly the type of man you can love and hate at the same time. This book ends with a cliffhanger leaving you wanting more and luckily the second part of this story comes out mid-September. I can’t wait to read more about Ryder and Scarlett.
